Description

It is the basic raw material for the manufacture of inorganic iodides and organic iodides. It is mainly used in medicine and health to manufacture various iodine preparations, bactericides, disinfectants, deodorants, analgesics and antidotes for radioactive substances. It is a raw material for the manufacture of pesticides and an additive for livestock feed. It is used in industry as an antibacterial agent for synthetic dyes, smoke extinguishing agents, photographic emulsions and cutting oil emulsions. It is used to manufacture single crystal prisms for electronic instruments, polarizing lenses for optical instruments, and glass that can transmit infrared rays. It is used in leather and special soaps. Iodine is a good catalyst in methylation, isomerization and dehydrogenation reactions in organic synthesis reactions. It is also used as a separation agent for alkanes and olefins. It is used as a stabilizer for rosin, tall oil and other wood products. It is also used as a refining agent for high-purity zirconium, titanium, hafnium, silicon and germanium.
