Description
Tianeptine is a tricyclic antidepressant. It exerts its antidepressant effect by acting on the 5-hydroxytryptamine system. In animal experiments, it can increase the spontaneous activity of pyramidal cells in the hippocampus and accelerate the recovery of their function after inhibition; it can also increase the reabsorption of 5-hydroxytryptamine by neurons in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus.
